FAQs
Get answers to your frequently asked questions.
Aspi values full transparency and proudly shares as much education as possible regarding CBD and skincare. Here are the answers to some of our most frequently asked questions:
What is CBD?
CBD, short for cannabidiol, is one of over one hundred naturally-occurring cannabinoids found in cannabis plants.
Will CBD get me high?
CBD is nonpsychoactive meaning it won’t get you high. As long as you’re using a hemp-derived CBD product with 0.3% THC or less, there will be no mind-altering effects. Trū Organics keeps strict testing standards to ensure all of our products contain 0.3% THC or less.
Does CBD have side effects?
While CBD is generally well-tolerated, rare cases of side effects have been reported when ingesting CBD. These side effects can include dry mouth, fatigue, changes in appetite, and diarrhea. Side effects may be caused by improper dosage, incompatible products (full-spectrum vs. isolate), or potential drug interactions. Individuals with hemp allergies may experience a reaction with topical products. However, topical CBD has no other known side effects.
Does CBD have drug interactions?
Similar to grapefruit, St. John’s Wort, and watercress, CBD does temporarily deactivate the cytochrome p450 system which is responsible for metabolizing over 60% of traditional pharmaceuticals and supplements. This impacts the dosage and efficacy of certain medications, making it crucial to speak to your healthcare professional before trying CBD. While a very minimal amount of CBD actually makes it to your bloodstream via topical application and shouldn’t cause any drug interactions, it’s best to discuss CBD use with your doctor.
What is the right CBD dosage for me?
Due to the fact that everyone has different endocannabinoid deficiencies and body chemistry, there is no standard dosage applicable to all. Self-experimentation is crucial for finding the right dosage for you. Topical CBD dosage and frequency vary from person to person. We recommend starting with a modest amount and working your way up until the desired results are achieved.
Can I overdose on CBD?
No, CBD remains safe in large doses and doesn’t pose any risk for overdose or dependency. While CBD is still safe in large doses, using more than needed won’t amplify your results.
Can I become addicted to CBD?
No, CBD does not pose any risk of dependency, tolerance, or addiction.
How old do I need to be to take CBD?
Aspi’s CBD-infused products are intended for individuals 18 and older. However, there are no federal regulations regarding the age minimum required for taking CBD. It is up to parents or guardians to speak to their pediatricians to discuss what is best for their children.
What is the difference between full-spectrum CBD, broad-spectrum CBD, and CBD isolate?
Full-spectrum CBD refers to a product that is meant to mimic the whole plant material of hemp. That means that it will contain CBD, 0.3% THC, as well as the other naturally-occurring cannabinoids and terpenes. Broad-spectrum CBD refers to a product that is meant to mimic the whole plant material of hemp but with zero THC content. These products will contain CBD as well as the other naturally-occurring cannabinoids and terpenes. CBD isolate refers to a product that contains 99+% pure CBD without any other cannabinoid or terpene content. Some CBD isolate products may have added terpenes or other isolated cannabinoids.
Is a full-spectrum, broad-spectrum, or CBD isolate product better for me?
Full-spectrum products are believed to have the benefit of the entourage effect which may be better suited for certain individuals. However, people with plant allergies may react to full-spectrum products formulated with crude oil due to the other plant material found in the product. CBD isolate may be better suited for individuals with plant allergies and other conditions. Self-experimentation is key for cannabinoid therapy, making it important for finding the right CBD product for you.
What is the entourage effect?
The entourage effect is hypothesized to be the synergetic relationship between all the cannabinoids and terpenes found in cannabis plants.
Will I fail a drug test when taking CBD?
Drug tests are designed to test for THC and not CBD. While the minimal THC content in full-spectrum CBD products shouldn’t trigger a false positive when used topically, it’s best to avoid CBD-infused skincare if you’re concerned. CBD isolate and broad-spectrum skincare with zero THC may be a better option.
Who can take CBD?
Individuals of all ages and backgrounds can use CBD skincare.
Who can take CBD?
CBG is a naturally-occurring phytocannabinoid like CBD. Our CBG is also sourced from our Colorado hemp farms raised with strict organic farming practices. Known as the “mother of cannabinoids”, CBG works synergetically with other phytocannabinoids to promote maximum results.
What is CBG?
Hemp-derived CBD is federally legal. Marijuana-derived CBD is only legal in states with medical and/or recreational marijuana laws. Aspi proudly ships to all 50 states and countries with legalized CBD.
What is the difference between hemp and marijuana?
Even though hemp and marijuana are both members of the cannabis family, they are both distinctively unique with different applications, chemical makeup, appearance, cultivation requirements, and legality.
Hemp is a nonpsychoactive plant that has up to 25,000 different applications. Hemp is known as a low-maintenance crop that can thrive in most environments and is a federally legal commodity. Marijuana is a psychoactive plant that has only two applications. Marijuana is a difficult plant to cultivate that requires specific conditions in order to thrive and is only legal in certain states with medical and/or recreational marijuana laws.
How does CBD work?
CBD interacts with our endocannabinoid system. The endocannabinoid system is a lock and key mechanism that plays a significant role in major physiological functions. The body produces endocannabinoids which attach to corresponding cannabinoid receptors located throughout various systems. When endocannabinoids trigger these receptors, it cools the body’s inflammatory response while nudging all systems towards homeostasis. CBD has the same chemical makeup as our endocannabinoids, causing the same harmonic response. Learn more about the endocannabinoid system.
What is the difference between CBD and THC?
CBD and THC are both naturally-occurring cannabinoids found in cannabis plants. They both have the same molecular structure, however, their atoms are arranged differently. CBD is nonpsychoactive while THC is psychoactive.
What is water-soluble CBD?
CBD in its natural form is not water-soluble. Water-soluble CBD is specially engineered for certain product formulations like bath bombs, bath salts, and other skincare products.
What is carrier oil?
Carrier oils are often added to CBD product formulations to provide better bioavailability. CBD’s hydrophobic nature mixes well with oil, which accounts for the various, different carrier oils used in CBD products.
What does independent, third-party lab tested mean?
This refers to outsourced lab testing conducted on CBD products. There are no regulations requiring this testing, however, CBD companies that are committed to transparency have decided to have their products undergo these testing standards.
Is CBD safe for senior adults?
Yes, CBD is safe for individuals in our senior community. Please be aware that CBD does pose potential drug interactions when taken orally, making it important to speak to your healthcare professional before trying CBD. While topical CBD shouldn’t cause drug interactions, it is still important to speak to your doctor.
Is CBD safe for pregnant or nursing women?
There is not enough scientific data available to make any definitive conclusions regarding the safety of CBD for pregnant or nursing women. While the endocannabinoid system plays an important role in fertility as well as pre- and postnatal development, the only studies available on CBD safety and pregnancy are preclinical. We do not recommend CBD for pregnant or nursing women. Please speak to your healthcare professional for more information.
What is the best time of day to use CBD skincare?
CBD skincare can be used morning, night, or any time throughout the day as needed.
How long do the effects of CBD last?
While this largely varies from individual to individual, the effects of CBD typically last between four to six hours. This can vary based on dosage, administration method, as well as your specific body chemistry.
How often should I apply CBD skincare?
Dosage frequency varies from individual to individual, making self-experimentation important for finding what’s best for you. We recommend applying CBD at least once daily and either increasing or decreasing frequency based on your experience.
What’s the difference between hemp-derived CBD and marijuana-derived CBD?
CBD has the same chemical makeup regardless if it’s derived from hemp or marijuana. Hemp-derived CBD isn’t psychoactive because of its limited THC content and can be legally purchased in all 50 states. Marijuana-derived CBD will be psychoactive because of the higher THC content and is only available for legal purchase in brick-and-mortar dispensaries in states with medical and/or recreational marijuana laws. In terms of topicals, both hemp-derived CBD and marijuana-derived CBD will not cause any mind-altering effects. The two topical products will vary in terms of potential benefits and usage.
When does CBD expire?
CBD typically has a shelf life of one to two years. This is dependent on the specific product and the other ingredients present in the formula. Aspi always includes an expiration date on all of our products to ensure client safety.
What happens after CBD expires?
CBD remains safe for topical use after expiration but does lose its potency. Always make sure that other ingredients in the formula are not expired before applying.
How should I store my CBD products?
The best way to extend product life for your CBD-infused skincare is by storing your products in a cool, dry, dark place out of direct sunlight. CBD skincare can be refrigerated but please make sure they are tightly sealed to prevent moisture exposure. We do not recommend keeping our products in the freezer.
Do you have product recommendations based on skin type?
All of our skincare has been carefully crafted in order to address all skin types including:
- Normal
- Combination
- Oily/Acne-Prone
- Dry/Mature
- Sensitive
You can easily build your own skincare regimen or check under the product’s directions to find what other products they pair best with.
When is the best time to apply serum?
Serums should be applied after cleansing and toning, and prior to moisturizer. We recommend applying products in the order of thinnest to thickest texture. Serums should be applied both morning and night for the best results. Always apply a broad-spectrum sunscreen if you apply any of our serums during the day.
What is the shelf life and recommended storage?
Aspi skincare products should be stored in a cool, dry place out of direct sunlight. They may be stored in the fridge if tightly sealed. We recommend using them within 12 months of purchase.
How often should I exfoliate?
There are two types of exfoliators: physical and chemical. Physical exfoliators include scrubs, salts, etc. while chemical exfoliators are ingredients in skincare products such as AHA, BHA, and PHA. We recommend exfoliating with a physical exfoliator, like our Volcanic Ash + Bamboo Cleansing Body Scrub, twice to three times per week maximum. Over exfoliation can cause micro-tears in the skin.
Our serums, like PHA-Powered Resurfacing Facial Serum, include a gentle chemical exfoliator that can safely be used daily.
